Cell phone generation

Never could I have imagined that I would be able to be reached 24 hours a day 7 days a week by anyone who had my number. Is is the craziest kind of technology. The world of online messaging, cell phones and the Internet.

When I went to India this summer, I have never seen so many people who have cell phones in my life! The maids, the drivers, the cab drivers, the bus drivers, kids of all ages.. and in some cases people have two or three cell phones, they don’t even have a land line. And the fact of the matter is.. it is really cheap to own and have a cell phone in places like India and China as the population is so huge that the companies can afford to charge such low rates. And even when I used to call home from India, it was dirt cheap.

Having a cell phone has been crucial to me since I was 18. That was when I got my first cell phone, and ever since then I never go anywhere without it. And by chance I happened to forget to grab it in the morning I feel totally lost and disconnected as it has all my phone numbers and my alarm clock, it is in a way connected to me. I would have to say I feel naked without it. Even if it dies on me cause I forgot to charge it the night before, I feel lost and disconnected.

My cell phone is always on. My friends can call me anytime they need to and i really mean anytime. I have had friends call me at 3:30 or 4 in the morning. And most of you who read that probably think i am nuts. And in a way i guess you could say that i am. But for me it is just being a reliable friend who can be reached at anytime and who will always be there for their friends. And if that makes me nuts then so be it.. and yes that might cut into my hours of sleep but i don’t mind, at least they know they can alway count on me.
